A single breasted sack coat with a stand up collar fastened with a hook and eye. The body closes with a seven button hidden placket and the side vents with single button on right and two buttons on left. Coat is trimmed with flat black mohair braid along bottom, side vents, front opening (loose along left side) and collar. The body is lined with black cotton and the sleeves with white cotton. Two buttons at top of placket have been replaced. The shoulder boards are for a lieutenant colonel of Infantry. The bullion is much tarnished and the right board has loosened at front and has loosened bullion at back. The collar has sewn on brass. One pair U.S.V. (United States Volunteers) brass and one brass of 20th Kansas Regiment (crossed arrows top with a 20 surmounting KAN.). There is mohair hanging loop sewn on back of collar and two inside pockets (one each side).
